5 Unexpected Ways to Support Your Breastfeeding Journey (That Actually Help)

When I first started breastfeeding, I thought I was prepared — I’m a midwife, after all. But the reality still threw me. The long nights, the cluster feeds, the emotional highs and lows… and the afterpains. I quickly realised that having a few solid tools (and the right kind of support) made a world of difference.

In honour of World Breastfeeding Week (1–7 August), we’re shining a light on some of the lesser-known ways you can support yourself while breastfeeding — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Whether you’re navigating cluster feeds, blocked ducts, or just trying to find your rhythm, these five simple tools and tips (including our much-loved Your Birth Weapon™ can help you feel a little more grounded, a little less sore, and a lot more supported.


1. Hold something grounding during long or stressful feeds

Cluster feeding can be intense — and sometimes overstimulating. Some mama's also experience pain or lightning sensation with the letdown.

2. Try gentle stimulation to encourage letdown
