A muka tie is used as an alternative to a plastic cord clamp.
Muka cord ties are made from harakeke — New Zealand flax — harvested here in Ōtautahi, Christchurch. Harakeke has been used in birth for generations, and for good reason. The muka fibre is naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial, and has long been valued for its healing properties — making it a genuinely good choice for something sitting against your newborn's cord.
It's strong, it's natural, and it sits gently against newborn skin without the bulk of a plastic clamp.
Woven by hand, each tie is a small but meaningful way to bring something grounded and intentional into your birth space.
How to use: Store in the freezer until you need them — the sap stays damp which makes tying easier.
Please note: comb not included

Worked beautifully. So small and easy to work around, kept everything clean and dry and sanitary then worked so quickly the cord fell off clean on day 5. Love this product. Would recommend to everyone.
Great alternative to plastic clip. Would use again and would recommend.
We used the Muka tie instead of a standard umbilical clamp and defo recommend. It’s softer, more comfortable for our baby, and feels much more natural. The clamp always seemed a bit harsh and plastic-y – the Muka tie just feels gentler and more in tune with the whole birth experience.
Loved using these for my birth with my son. Soooo much nicer than the plastic clamp!
Thank you 🙏
